Simply search on google “German Language pack or such relevant string. Now, let’s begin with downloading language packages which are widely available in Github. For downloading Magento Language German package simply go to the Github and download the zip file.
Now Simply click the Clone or download button and it’ll show a dropdown Menu. Next using the download button in the following image download the .zip file in your local machine. Now scroll down to see the instruction to install the Magento Language Package.
Note: We’re installing the Magento Language Package in a Local environment using XAMPP. Here you can read more about setting XAMPP or installing Magento locally.
Following are the steps to follow to add a Magento Language package:
- Simply extract the Magento Language Package into a folder.
- Right after extracting create a new folder “i18n” in the following path:
"C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\i18n" - Next, follow the instructions and again create a new folder inside it:
"C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\i18n\splendid" - Now, once more create a new folder “de_DE”:
C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\i18n\splendid\de_DE - Simply copy-paste everything from the downloaded and later extracted folder:
C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\app\i18n\splendid\de_DE
Magento Language package install – DashBoard
- First login your Dashboard using credentials in the local Environment.
- Now under “store>genarel>locale>locale” from the dropdown choose German.
- Next Click on to save the settings.
- Again using dash go to “system>cache management” and select all.
- Clicking on the will clear the cache.
Magento Language package install – CMD

- Simply open up CMD prompt as Administrator.
- Go to your root folder:
- Now run the following code:
php bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy de_DE - Next, run the following code as per instruction in Github:
php bin/magento setup:upgrade - Go to your root Magento Folder “C:\xampp\htdocs\magento\” and delete everything inside the folder “var”.
- Finally, run the following code using your CMD:
php bin/magento setup:di:compile
After finishing the compiling process go to the front end of your store and refresh the browser. If everything goes right you can see your store is completely turned in to German. Also, you can reverse to English by simply choosing English from the dashboard “store>genarel>locale>locale”. Either you can also use Multiple stores at the same time.
